A top DHS official who oversaw media operations in the Department of Homeland Security is being tapped to fill a media analyst position at the agency, according to a report.
The new position will be at the center of DHS’s ongoing push to diversify the agency’s workforce, according a new DHS hiring video.
“Our government is in desperate need of qualified journalists who will help us deliver the American people the facts and analysis they deserve,” U.S. Senator Ron Johnson, a Democrat from Wisconsin, said in a statement.
“I am grateful for the Department’s decision to retain the talent, as it is critical to our Nation’s security.”
The video announcing the hiring said the newly hired media analyst will be responsible for coordinating media operations at the DHS.
The position is part of DHS’ efforts to diversifying its workforce.
“We are excited to have the talented, driven and experienced journalist, Laura Tumminello, join our team as our new media analyst,” said Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke.
“Laura will bring a wealth of experience in both her role as a journalist and her role in the field of government, including her experience working in the private sector and as a reporter.
She will also bring a proven track record of success as a producer and director, as well as a deep understanding of our national security strategy and capabilities.”
The department said it will make a decision on the hiring this week.
